Local Clubs and Societies
Woodmancote (Cheltenham) Men’s Probus Club
We are all retired Professional or Business men. We meet every week on Tuesday morning – except Tuesdays following a bank holiday – at 10am in Woodmancote New Village Hall.
Probus Clubs are to be found throughout the U. K. They resulted from the idea to provide an alternative to Rotary, when members of these Clubs retire. However, there is generally now only a tentative link with that organization and any retired man is invited to come along to some of our Probus meetings to see whether they appeal.
The meetings start with refreshments of tea or coffee and biscuits, providing the opportunity for social intercourse. At 10.30, the meeting proper begins. This usually takes the form of a talk or presentation, sometimes illustrated, by a visiting speaker. During the course of a year we have, generally speaking, one or two talks from within the membership, sometimes short talks or presentations by 2 or 3 members. In addition, outings to local places of interest are arranged and we always have a Christmas lunch together, when we invite wives and partners.
If you would like to know more, please do not hesitate to contact the Secretary, Dick Rands, on 01242 672132, or come along to one of our meetings.
Cleeve Chorale
Cleeve Chorale is an amateur choral society based in Woodmancote and Bishop\'s Cleeve. The choir can trace its origins back to a group of singers who founded the Bishop\'s Cleeve Choral and Dramatic Society in the early 1930s. The choir usually performs in three concerts each year including a Christmas concert. Recent concerts have included music by Faure, Mendelssohn and Haydn.
The choir usually performs in local venues but has also been on tour to the Salzburg area of Austria and Tuscany in Italy where they perfomed a memorial concert for Pope John Paul II in Florence.
The choir meets on Tuesday evenings in termtime at Woodmancote Free Church, Stockwell Lane, 7.30-9.30pm. If you would like to find out more about Cleeve Chorale you can visit our website at www.cleevechorale.co.uk or email us info@cleevechorale.co.uk
