Woodmancote Village Halls

Woodmancote is lucky in that it has 2 halls – the hall that is known locally as the ‘Old Hall’ on Stockwell Lane and the ‘New Hall’ at the end of Bushcombe Close.

The ‘Old Hall’, built in the early part of the 20th century, has kitchen and toilet facilities and a loop system for the hard of hearing. During the week it is regularly used by the Dog Training class (obedience), the Senior Citizens Club, an Art Class, Guides, Brownies & Rainbows and the Free Church; there are occasional band practices and Guide Dog puppy training sessions. The hall can also be hired for private parties at £3 per hour or part of hour, and M Godsell on 01242 675962 can be contacted for more information regarding the hire.

The ‘New Hall’ built in the ’60s (plus later extension) consists of a main and a small hall, both of which have kitchens. There is wheelchair access, a disabled toilet and a loop system for the hard of hearing, plus sound system in the large hall. The large kitchen contains a double oven, 2 microwaves, a fridge and a wall mounted water heater. The hall is licensed for 150 people in the large hall and 50 in the small hall and already has its new entertainments licence. The hall is available for hire on Saturdays, at a cost of £14.50 per hour. The small hall costs £10 per hour, and there is a special hourly rate if both halls are booked together. There is also a bar, which can be hired for special occasions, with no extra charge.

During the week a huge variety of groups use the hall on a regular basis – Playgroup, Mothers and Toddlers, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, Brownies, children’s Ballet Classes, Probus, Art Classes, Women’s Institute, Horticultural Society, Blue Moon Harmony Choir, Appalachian Clog Dancing, Upholstery Classes, Bridge, Bowling and Keep Fit. There is also a Cricket Club and Football Club that use the playing field and the hall. There are a few available spaces for additional classes or group meetings.
The caretaker for the ‘New Hall’ is Jim Makin and he can be contacted on 01242 673512 or 07766413376 for information regarding hire of the hall
